Ammiel Bushakevitz, a renowned pianist as soloist, chamber musician and vocal accompanist, and the recipient of many awards including the 2013 Richard Wagner Centennial Prize by the Richard Wagner Association of Leipzig, Germany, will be visiting South Australia to perform a Schubert and Liszt recital at the prestigious Ukaria Cultural Centre on 29 April this year. He has very kindly offered to give a lecture-recital for The Richard Wagner Society of South Australia while he is here. Ammiel will explore three facets of the relationship between Wagner and Liszt: who influenced whom, and by how much, in music, harmony and composition; the intimate personal connection, especially Wagner’s affair and marriage with Liszt’s daughter Cosima; and finally, their divergent views on music and nationalism.
